About Dunstan Orchard

Hellloo 🙋‍♂️

I’m Dunstan Orchard. My wife and I live in Inverness, California. We have a shared love of nature, and together we manage four acres of woodland and three cats.

Kristina works as a full-time artist and field recordist. I’m a designer. In fact I’ve spent the last 24 years designing and building products at companies like Apple, Flickr, Aol, Quora, and Observable. You’ll find writeups of some of that work on this site and in my resumé. The rest is best discussed in person. Please email me if you’d like to talk.

During those 24 years I’ve learned that I’m at my best with people who feel accountable for what they put out into the world. Like me, they tend to be people who welcome being questioned, because they care more about the work being right than about being right themselves.

This quote from Priya Parker captures something about how I fit into such groups:

In healthy contexts, if you share a common purpose, ‘troublemakers’…are the ones who are most likely to be part of transformational conversations. And that’s because as a troublemaker, you’re willing to poke and prod and you’re not afraid of a little heat. But as a smoother-over, you’re also interested in repair and coming together.

I’m both a troublemaker and a smoother-over, and my best work has come out of honest discussions held inside healthy relationships.
